A Nigerian living in Atlanta has compared the level of accountability of churches in Nigeria and the US.

Kelvin Boj, a worshiper at ‘Impact’ in Atlanta noted the church, headed by a Nigerian, told members the amount obtained from offerings, tithes and how the money is spent.

According to him, the pastor at Impact does the accounting session regularly in church.

Sharing the details on Instagram, Kelvin Boj/@iamkelvinboj wrote:

“The way things are done at the church is quite unique and different. From the level of organization to the teachings, everything is so well put together. But there is something even more intriguing about this church and that’s the level of accountability and transparency.

They tell you how much offerings the members gave and tell you how every single penny from the offerings and tithe were spent. With all the drama happening in the Nigerian media and press when it comes to churches, it taught it wise to share a bit of the head pastor giving an account to the members of how much offering was made and how it was being spent.

Understand that this is something he does regularly.”

However, while some of his followers applaud his church, some still believe its a sham and the church a means of hoodwinking the congregation.

So I have recently been attending a church out here in Atlanta called ‘Impact’ and I must say the way things are done at the church is quite unique and different. From the level of organization to the teachings, everything is so well put together. But there is something even more intriguing about this church and that’s the level of accountability and transparency. They tell you how much offerings the members gave and tell you how every single penny from the offerings and tithe were spent. With all the drama happening in the Nigeria media and press when it comes to churches, it taught it wise to share a bit of the head pastor giving an account to the members of how much offering was made and how it was being spent. Understand that this is something he does regularly. And just so you know; The Head pastor (@pastorolubrown) is also Nigerian. #foodforthought

low2s_ Religion in Africa has become a disaster ! Many of the so called pastors mislead and steal from their dummy congregations And all in the name of divine grace the members won’t see how they are being robbed. @tundeednut posted some yahoo pastors the other day , so does @instablog9ja but @daddyfrz here’s free food ?

adeola_joe9 Religion has been taken to the extreme in Africa..

tha_spicy What’s more wowing to me on this post is seeing u in church haha?

However, commenters on a version of Kelvin’s post, shared by Instablog9ja, said the accountability is obtainable in Nigerian churches, especially in Catholic and ECWA.

@turalboifilmz:  They do it in nigeria too na. This one just want to talk. Smh

@y_aarrow: It’s not new, I’m catholic and we do this?

@adeshola.f:  A Church i attended outside Naij run by Nigerians also reported revenue from the previous week but little about revenue, which is Okay.

@african_hairgoddess: Catholic Church does that too, they sent mail every end of the month to each members so you know how the money is spent on a monthly base

@angelofori01: The Nigerian Baptist church does this too so what’s new???

@govdjvickiss: Come to Naija and attend @todhouseoffavor my pastor does the same too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

@mickeyspride: Cos it’s the states,if he is caught doing something shady he can be sent to Jail..who want to jail our daddy G.O’s in Nigeria ? They are protected by the “Touch not my anointed” quote and politicians …they will tell you they give account to God and let God be the judge..mumurism at it peak ??

@dencyfoods:  So are you telling me that the teaching method for all children all over the world would be the same? No, this cannot work in Nigeria

@olatunder:  If churches do this Nigeria fight go happen ooo.. Many members go stone G.O to death .. When u hear 12.5million for daddy feeding allowances..?????

@katkweenx: My Church, ECWA does this at midyear and end of the year . They print out a financial report and share it for each member during service while the financial secretary/accountant comes to the altar to give his report. So the whole Church is carried along and questions are even welcomed after service. It usually lengthens the service a bit but we don’t mind?

:@adconpoint: @itz_jwizzy. Accountability is mentioned in the Acts of Apostle, Barnabas sold his plot of land and brought all the proceeds : Acts 4:3. Ananias and Saphira sold their possessions and secretly withheld some and lied about it , which resulted in their death..accountability 101 : Acts 5:5
