Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to prioritise national unity. By emphasising Peter Obi Nigeria unity, he made this call as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.

According to Vanguard, Obi made the call during a global digital town hall. In this context, Peter Obi Nigeria unity was a major theme as he addressed Nigerians at home and abroad on voter mobilisation, election security and protecting votes.

Obi said Nigeria remained deeply divided along ethnic and religious lines despite citizens facing similar economic and security challenges.

“Our country needs unity,” he said.

Obi says hardship cuts across tribes

The former Anambra State governor argued that the high cost of living and insecurity did not discriminate on the basis of tribe or religion.

“No tribe buys bread at a lower price, and no tribe buys fuel at a lower price,” Obi said.

He maintained that Nigeria needed a president capable of bringing citizens together. Clearly, Nigeria unity is central to his campaign message. At the same time, he said the president must ensure that security agencies received the equipment and support necessary to perform their duties.

Voters urged to protect ballots

Obi also urged Nigerians to remain at polling units after casting their votes until counting was completed.

He said his campaign was expanding its network of polling agents. Furthermore, they are engaging other political parties in efforts to ensure credible elections. In fact, Peter Obi Nigeria unity was highlighted as key for credible and peaceful polls.

He warned voters against allowing money or intimidation to determine their electoral choices. He argued that vote-buying ultimately deprived citizens of resources that should be spent on security, education and healthcare.
