Police arrest two over Rivers kidnapping, hunt four others

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate. The group is linked to the abduction of a Port Harcourt resident.

According to Channels Television, the suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.

Police identified the suspects as Victor Ifeanyi, 24, also known as “Big Boby,” and Aniekan Okon Michael, 36, also known as “Duff Man.”

Victim held for three days

Police said the victim, identified as Mr Hassan, was abducted around Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt on September 6.

He was reportedly taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days.

His relatives allegedly paid ₦10.3 million ransom before he was released.

Police hunt remaining suspects

The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the gang consisted of six members. They allegedly used a white minibus during the operation.

Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest the remaining four suspected members of the group.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju urged residents to provide credible information. This could help security agencies identify and apprehend criminal suspects.

He assured residents that information supplied to the police would be treated confidentially.
