Niger Gov Bello abandons council meeting to mourn Senator Nuhu Aliyu



Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on Wednesday mourned the death of former Deputy Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force and senator for Niger North, Senator Nuhu Aliyu.

Aliyu died on Wednesday in Kaduna after a brief illness.

While describing the former legislator as a great man of courage, Bello said he received news of his demise while the weekly State Executive Council Meeting was ongoing.

Sources disclosed that the governor was compelled to abandon the meeting to enable him to dispatch a delegation to Kaduna where the burial would take place.

A statement by Secretary to Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, further said the State has lost a man of inestimable value, adding his advice would be greatly missed.

“The patriotic tendencies and excellent handling of legislative duties concerning the welfare of people and the nation demonstrated by late Senator Nuhu Aliyu are worthy of emulations.

“But we must take solace in the fact that from God we all come and to Him we shall all return. Nobody shall live longer than the time appointed by Almighty God,” the statement partly reads.
