At an occasion held in Abakaliki,The President of a social group, Progressives For Greatness has called on Nigerians to sustain the promotion of love, peace and unity in the year 2020.

Mgbada said the country stood to gain when love and unity reign.

Mgbada, a member of the Ebonyi Secondary Education Board (SEB), said that the country witnessed positive strides in 2019 due to the imbibing of love, peace and unity being preached by relevant stakeholders.

“Nigeria, contrary to predictions of pessimists, still remained united after its general elections in 2019 and the rate of civil disturbances dropped considerably when compared to previous years.

“Nigerians related with one another with love which saw the drastic reduction of herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, communal crises, displacement of natives due to terror acts among other.

“A lot however need to be done in 2020 to ensure that incidences of kidnapping which was on the rise, are curtailed to consolidate on the gains of governance experienced in 2019,” he said.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that the country remained united and the enhancement of the social sector which made life easier for Nigerians.

“The Nigerians workers smiled as the new minimum wage was eventually implemented with arrears paid, while there were general improvement in infrastructure: road, rail and airline sectors.

“Nigerians should support the Federal Government in 2020 by eschewing acts which promote disunity as we hope for a more united and prosperous country in 2020,” he said.

The group’s president also hailed Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi for his infrastructural strides, stating that such has put the state in the pedestal of development.

“Most of our members, who reside outside the state and country are awed by the level of infrastructural transformation especially in Abakaliki, with most of them not recognising the city again.

“Such level of transformation has placed the state among the comity of prosperous states with its attendant social and economic benefits to the people,” he said.

He noted that the group has intellectuals, political office holders, entrepreneurs and members that propagate the virtues of peace, progress, unity and harmony.

“Our members experienced lots of promotions and good tidings in 2019 and we used the occasion to thank God for sparing our lives and protecting us in 2019.

“We are optimistic of more promotions in 2020 and pledge to continue contributing our quota to the state and country’s development in 2020.

“We would also enhance our social responsibility mandate by empowering more vulnerable members of the society and generally assisting the youths and needy to become useful to the society,” he said.

Mr Jumbo Onyekachi, a China-based member of the group commended Mgbada and other leaders for effective coordination of activities of the group, especially in assisting the vulnerable members of the society.

“I was awed with the level of infrastructural strides in Ebonyi on return to the country and wish that Ebonyians continue supporting the state government for sustained development,” he said.
