2027 isn’t about hunger, you must vote me, Tinubu tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to vote for him in the January 16, 2027, presidential election, insisting that hunger and public anger should not determine their choice at the polls.

The president made the appeal on Saturday during the flag-off of his presidential campaign in Kaduna, where he called on voters to re-elect him and secure victories for the All Progressives Congress (APC) across various levels of government.

Addressing supporters, Tinubu dismissed the opposition as political failures, arguing that they had no concrete solutions to offer Nigerians amid the country’s economic challenges.

“This is not a matter of hunger. This is not a matter of anger either. Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you but heckling. We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery, and opportunities. I assure you,” Mr Tinubu said.

He further urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers to support his re-election bid and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

“It is a promise. Come January 16, 2027, you must go out massively to elect me again. APC all the way, APC for our governors, APC for our senators, APC for our House Representatives, and all House Assembly.”

Tinubu also blamed opposition parties for the hunger and poverty affecting Nigerians, maintaining that his administration was working to address the country’s economic difficulties.

However, his remarks come against the backdrop of sustained opposition criticism of the government’s economic policies and their impact on the cost of living.

Atiku Abubakar, an opposition figure affiliated with the African Democratic Party, has repeatedly accused the Tinubu administration of worsening economic hardship and pushing Nigerians into an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis.

Abubakar has promised to make essential goods and services more affordable, with his campaign including a proposal to restore fuel subsidies for locally produced fuel as part of efforts to reduce the financial burden on households.

The economy remains a major point of contention between Tinubu and his opponents as political parties seek to persuade Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
