Nepotism, Religious Intolerance the cause of Insecurity in Nigeria – Group
Friendship is Peace International (FIPI) in Warri has blamed the insecurity across Nigeria on nepotism and religious intolerance, warning that the common man should no longer allow themselves be used by “greedy leaders” to disintegrate the country.
The group made this statement in a press conference held at the Nigerian Union of journalists ( NUJ ) Press Centre, Warri correspondent chapel on monday January 9.
They said, “canvassed for political reorientation and sensitization for the common man to enable them know they have no other country than Nigeria.
“We therefore, specifically called for ballot box/common man revolution in Nigeria whereby the common man would be Abel to realize and utilize their political power through the ballot box and to recognise that Nigeria is their only country.”
The President of the group, Elder Edward Nikagbatse Oki, lamented that “insecurity is festering in Nigeria because the common man is being used as canon foder, and do not know what is involved.”
“The politicians of the first republic laid the foundation of our crisis. The ethnocentric leaders used their ethnocentric jingoism to disorientate the common man and make the masses fight against themselves.
“The politicians are taking the common man for a ride. It is high time for reorientation of the Nigerian masses. We need justice and fair play in the country.
“We can solve the problem in Nigeria through friendship individually and collectively. Then, the common man will realise that they do not need the boujouasee to dictate to them.
“We need political education for the common man to know his rights. We need bloodless revolution through the ballot box and effective sensitization of the common man.
“We should shun ethnocentricism, clannishness, tribalism and religious intolerance in all its ramifications” they said.
