NCDC records 83 new cases, zero COVID-19 death

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says 83 persons have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.


This is just as the agency reported no new deaths rising from complications of the virus in the last 24 hours.

This was disclosed in a statement released on the agency’s verified Twitter handle in the early hours of Friday.

According to the NCDC, the total number of infections has risen to 163,581 cases nationwide while the total fatality stands at 2,058.

However, at least 217 parients have been discharged after fully recovering from the virus on Thursday, taking the number of discharged patients from 153,788 to 154,005.

The NCDC reported the 83 new cases from 14 states; “Lagos-22, Rivers-18, Nasarawa-9, Cross River-8, Ondo-6, Delta-5, Akwa Ibom-4, Bauchi-3, Zamfara-2, Kaduna-2, Ebonyi-1, Sokoto-1, Ekiti-1, Kano-1.”

It however noted that “the cumulative confirmed cases reported on 7th April, 2021 did not include data for 6th April, 2021.

“38 discharged cases previously recorded in Bauchi State was erroneously reported.”

The agency revealed that a total of 1,803,177 samples have been tested since Nigeria recorded its index case last year while there are currently 7,690 active cases.

A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.
