Nations League: Netherlands fight back to secure 2-1 win over Poland
The Netherlands secured a late 2-1 comeback against Poland on Wednesday night in the UEFA Nations League match.
The home side broke the deadlock in the 5th minute with a solo run and a superb finish from Kamil Jóźwiak after picking up a pass from Robert Lewandowski.
The visitors were dominant in possession and attacked frequently but didn’t do much to break the Polish defence, let alone beat goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski.
After ending the first half a goal down, the Netherlands came reading in the second half and all efforts paid off towards the end of the match as they bagged two goals in the space of seven minutes.
Lyon star, Memphis Depay began the comeback when he levelled up for the away team in the 77th minute. Although Fabianski guessed right he was unable to beat the speed and accuracy of Depay’s penalty.
The Dutch side kept pushing and got rewarded in the 84th minute as Georginio Wijnaldum header from a well-taken corner by S. Berghuis found the back of the net.
