Nassarawa police confirm abduction of LG boss

The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially confirmed the abduction of Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, by unknown gunmen. 

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, affirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lafia on Tuesday.

Nansel stated that the police received information about the abduction, which occurred around 8:30 pm in Ningo village of Akwanga LGA. Commissioner of Police Umar Nadada has mobilized personnel to pursue the assailants and ensure the safe release of the kidnapped chairman and another individual.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council chairman and the other victim,” assured Nansel.

He urged the public, especially residents of villages in the area, to provide any useful information that could aid in the rescue operation and the apprehension of the perpetrators.

Mr. Haruna Kassimu, the Special Adviser to Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and a close associate of the LG chairman, also corroborated the incident. 

According to Kassimu, the chairman and one Adamu Custom were abducted at Ningo village in Akwanga around 8:30 pm on Monday.
