Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said his two daughters do not need his approval to live their lives. He revealed that both identify as lesbians.
According to The PUNCH, Charly Boy spoke while addressing reactions to previous social media posts about his children. He explained his approach to parenting adult children.
He said accepting the sexuality of his youngest daughter was initially difficult but added that love eventually shaped his response.
“Get it clear, I actually have two daughters who are lesbians. My youngest daughter came out first, years ago, and my eldest daughter came out more recently,” he said.
Charly Boy says happiness comes first
The entertainer said parents cannot completely control the decisions of their adult children.
“My only concern is for her to be happy,” he said while speaking about his older daughter.
Charly Boy added that maintaining a loving relationship with his children mattered more to him. This was more important than trying to dictate their personal choices.
“I don’t want to quarrel with my children if I can help it. As long as you’re not bothering me, asking me for money or having a sense of entitlement, it’s all about love,” he said.
Entertainer says parenting has changed
Charly Boy said his approach to fatherhood has evolved over the years, particularly when dealing with younger generations.
“As a parent, I’ve learnt that with millennials and Gen Zs, you don’t tell them what to do; you can only advise them,” he said.
He added that the era of parents relying mainly on commands and physical punishment was over.
The entertainer said his openness about his family reflects his broader belief in allowing people to make their own choices. He said people should take responsibility for their lives.
