My dad was against my football career – Chiamaka Nnadozie

The standout goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, Chiamaka Nnadozie, disclosed that her father initially opposed her decision to pursue a career in football.

Speaking during her acceptance speech at the CAF awards in Marakesh, Morocco, where she was honored as the best female goalkeeper on the continent, the 23-year-old shared her journey.

In her heartfelt speech, Nnadozie expressed gratitude to the organizers for recognizing female goalkeepers and extended appreciation to the Nigerian football president for his contributions to the Nigerian league and women’s football.

”I just want to use this great opportunity to say a very great thank you to the organisers and also for remembering the female goalkeeper this year.”

“I also want to say a very big thank you to the Nigerian football president for everything he has done in the Nigerian league and female football. I am a product of Nigerian female football,” she said.

She acknowledged her roots in Nigerian female football and thanked her club, Paris FC, for their support.

Nnadozie also thanked those who voted for her and those who nominated her for the prestigious award.

Addressing young girls aspiring to become footballers in Africa, she said, “And to all the young girls who grew up in Africa, dreaming of becoming footballers one day, Believe me, dreams do come true.”

In a touching moment, Nnadozie revealed her father’s initial resistance to her football ambitions.

Despite his reservations, she expressed confidence that he would be happy witnessing her success. She concluded with encouragement for aspiring footballers to keep dreaming and working hard.

“My dad never wanted me to play, but I am sure he is going to see this tonight and he is going to be happy. Keep dreaming; keep working hard. Thank you,” she said.
