Victor Muñoz rescued a point for Liverpool as the Reds twice came from behind. As a result, they earned a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.
According to The Guardian, Forest took control of the contest through Dan Ndoye. Alexander Isak brought Liverpool level. Only for Morgan Gibbs-White to restore the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot.
Forest strike first at Anfield
Nottingham Forest made the stronger start and were rewarded in the 24th minute. This happened when Ndoye finished a move created by Gibbs-White to put the visitors ahead.
Liverpool thought they had found an equaliser through Florian Wirtz. However, the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.
Forest continued to trouble the hosts, leaving Liverpool searching for a response after going into the break behind.
Isak pulls Liverpool level
Liverpool eventually found their way back into the contest on the hour mark.
Isak converted from Cody Gakpo’s delivery to make it 1-1 and give the Anfield crowd renewed hope of a turnaround.
The momentum did not remain with the hosts for long.
Forest were awarded a penalty after Alisson was adjudged to have fouled former Liverpool defender Neco Williams inside the area.
Gibbs-White stepped up in the 70th minute and converted the spot-kick to restore Forest’s lead.
Muñoz rescues Liverpool
Liverpool responded for a second time through Muñoz in the 82nd minute.
The Spaniard produced an impressive finish to beat the Forest goalkeeper and drag Liverpool level at 2-2.
Both sides pushed for a winner during the closing stages, but neither could find the decisive goal.
The result means Liverpool have started their Premier League campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws. They also shared the points with Newcastle United in their opening fixture.
Forest, meanwhile, secured their first league point of the season after giving Liverpool another difficult afternoon at Anfield.
The draw also leaves Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola still searching for his first Premier League victory since taking charge of the Reds.
