Decomposing body of ex-customary court president discovered in Makurdi
The former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Makurdi, Benue State, Justice Margaret Igbetar, has been found dead in her home by her son.
The incident was reported to the “E” Division Police Station, Makurdi, by the family of the deceased. A police source confirmed that the son was assisting the police with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
According to a source, her body was already decomposing, indicating that she was killed a few days ago.
“Her corpse seems to be decomposing at the time it was found, suggesting she must have been killed before yesterday (Thursday),” the source said
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to get the full details of the incident. The police force also informed that they were working hard to unravel the cause and motive of the death.
Justice Igbetar was born on October 17, 1950, in Mbape, Shangev-ya, Tsar-Mbaduku, in the Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State. She was married and had seven children; two sons and five daughters.
The retired judge was a founding member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Benue State. She retired from the Customary Court of Appeal in 2018.
