Suspected Benue judge killer arrested

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in relation to the killing of a retired judge, Justice Margaret Igbetar. The decomposing body of the former president of the Benue Customary Court of Appeal was discovered on Thursday in her kitchen at her residence in Makurdi.

 

According to a statement by the state command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, the suspect, identified as Aondohemba Joseph, was arrested after a thorough investigation. The police also recovered some exhibits from him for further analysis.

 

A part of the statement read “On 24/8/2023 at about 1530hrs information was received at ‘E’ Police Division Makurdi, that Justice Margaret Mary Igbetar (retd.) could not respond to calls and was nowhere to be found. Detectives were immediately deployed for investigation.”

 

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Bartholomew Onyeka, expressed his condolence to the family of the deceased and condemned the barbaric act. He assured them he was committed to unraveling the mystery behind the death and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
