Man bags one-year jail term for stealing
A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Jos, on Tuesday, sentenced one Yusuf Adam to one-year imprisonment for stealing items worth N106,000 and N33,000 cash.
The Chief Magistrate, Roseline Baraje, sentenced Adam after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
Baraje, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported by one Hauwau Idris, of Ndu Street in Jos, at the Jos “C” Divisional Police Station on Jan. 6.
Dabit said that the defendant, who resides at Lugun Makafi area of Jos, stole the complainant’s LG television, DSTV decoder, one Itel phone and one Techno phone, all valued at N106,000.
He added that the defendant also stole N33,000 cash.
He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime and sold the items to one Sarki Saidu.
The prosecutor said that the offense contravened Section 272 of the Plateau Penal Code.
