Man bags life imprisonment for raping schoolgirl with charm in Ekiti

An Ekiti High Court sitting, on Thursday, sentenced 24-year-old Dayo Asiwaju to life imprisonment for raping a college student with charms.

Asiwaju was tried and found guilty on two-count bordering on rape and unlawful possession of charms.

Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, in passing his judgment said, “The sole issue for determination is resolved in favour of the prosecution. The defendant is accordingly found guilty as charged on both counts. He is sentenced to life imprisonment in Count 1 (Rape) and in Count 2, he is sentenced to three years imprisonment.”

According to the charge sheet, “Asiwaju committed the offence on 29th March 2019 at Ikoyi Street, Ikere Ekiti, when he used charm to rape a 200 level student of Economics/Political Education student of College of Education, Ikere Ekiti”.

The prosecutor, Dolapo Oyewole, said, “The offence was contrary to sections 357 and 213 (b) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012”.

During the trial, the prosecutor called two witnesses while exhibits tendered included statements of the defendant, stained bed sheet with blood, charms, among others but the defendant spoke through his counsel, Chris Omokhafe and called no witnesses.
