Man allegedly kills, buries 80-year-old mom over properties in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly killing his 80-year-old mother, Victoria Adeniyi, in Gbagada, a suburb of the state.
The suspect, simply identified as Ayodeji, was said to have strangled the woman sometime in November 2020 and secretly embalmed her in a room in their twin-duplex mansion.
Ayodeji allegedly secretly buried her in the compound in January 2021.
His misdeed, however, came to light when he started selling off the woman’s properties in the state as well as those owned by the octogenarian’s late husband. He was alleged to have forged documents and a letter of administration obtained from the probate court through which he took possession of all the properties.
According to The Nation, Ayodeji had sold off one of his mother’s three properties at Ketu for about N21m and was about to sell a second property when concerned neighbours, who knew his siblings, informed them their mom was last seen in November and nobody knew her whereabouts.
His siblings got their lawyer, one Aborisade Olusegun, involved; the lawyer, in turn, petitioned the police alleging the woman’s abduction and Ayodeji was invited for questioning.
However, Ayodeji failed to honour the police invitation and three weeks after he was first invited the police arrested him.
During interrogation Ayodeji reportedly confessed to killing his mother and burying her in the compound.
Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the case, saying the woman’s body had been exhumed. Autopsy will reveal the cause of death. The suspect is in custody. The case is under investigation,” he said.
