Makinde extends wage increase for six months
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared an extension of the wage increment for workers in the state for an additional six months, making the announcement during the inauguration of the 12.5km Challenge – Odo Ona – Elewe-Elebu – Apata dualized road project on Friday.
Initially approved in October, the Oyo State Government sanctioned a wage increase of N25,000 for workers and N15,000 for pensioners, effective for six months.
Despite the ongoing period, Governor Makinde opted to prolong the wage increment, much to the satisfaction of the workers. He cited the need to alleviate the impact of the country’s economic challenges as the rationale behind his administration’s decision.
Speaking on the matter, the governor stated, “When this economic crisis started, we gave wage awards to the workers. I gave them for six months, we started 6th October, I wanted that time to be able to sort out between the government and the workers what the minimum wage should be.”
Highlighting the economic realities in Nigeria, Governor Makinde outlined plans by the Peoples Democratic Party, his political affiliation, to unveil a comprehensive action plan in the near future for the nation’s collective benefit.
“We all know the reality of the times no matter how anyone tries to paint it. In the weeks and months to come, our dear party will propose action plans that we believe will work for our nation when adopted,” he affirmed.
Emphasizing the commitment to governance over political agendas, the governor reiterated the importance of infrastructure development regardless of its jurisdiction, underscoring the economic significance of such projects to Oyo State.
Governor Makinde urged concerted efforts from all stakeholders to contribute to Nigeria’s resurgence, reaffirming the PDP’s unwavering determination to deliver democratic dividends to every Nigerian.
