Lawyer urges governors to emulate Adeleke, sacrifice security votes

Published

Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called on governors of the 35 states in the Federation to emulate the example of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and sacrifice their monthly security votes for the development of their individual states.

Olajengbesi made this call on Monday when he received a courtesy visit from some youths from Osun State in his office in Abuja.

He lamented that many governors receive at least N600 million or more each month for security votes but rather than using these funds for the development of their states, some of them look away and even owe salaries to civil servants.

“Nigeria is at a very serious time in the history of our nation and leaders must make the necessary sacrifices required of them for nation-building and the survival of the people at this time,” Olajengbesi stated.

He praised Governor Adeleke for consistently allocating his security votes to the payment of salaries and other development projects since assuming office last year. He urged other governors to follow in Adeleke’s footsteps and prioritize the needs of their people.

Governors of the other 35 states must prioritise the people and borrow a leaf from Senator Adeleke by sacrificing their monthly security votes to the people,” Olajengbesi emphasized.
