Kenya not aware of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest – Spokesperson
A spokeswoman for the Kenyan interior ministry has revealed that they are not aware that the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on their soil.
Reuters reported that Kenya’s foreign affairs ministry in Nairobi, however, refused to comment on the matter when questioned.
Kanu who jumped bail in 2017 was rearrested under obscure circumstances by the Nigerian Government and he’s being held by the Department of State Services after appearing before an Abuja Court, WuzupNigeria had reported.
While the Nigerian Government kept mum about the details of his arrest, a brother to the IPOB leader revealed that he was arrested in Kenya, against speculations liking his arrest to the United Kingdom.
“The re-arrest was made possible by the diligent efforts of our security and intelligence agencies, in collaboration with countries with which we have obligations,” Information Minister Lai Mohammed told reporters.
“We continue to respect and honour the obligations,” he said, giving no further details.
Mohammed said Kanu was facing 11 charges including treason, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms. His case is due to resume in court on July 26-27.
