Kano, Uyo to host maiden edition of NLO Cup

Kano and Uyo have been selected as the venues for the maiden edition of the Nationwide League One Cup, which will be held from November 24 to December 9, 2023.

NLO Chief Operating Officer Olushola Ogunnowo announced the news to the NLO media, assuring that the league has made arrangements for comfortable accommodations and transportation subsidies for all participating teams.

The Nationwide League One, as the third-tier league in Nigeria, has decided to showcase some of the best teams in the grassroots league in a tournament tagged ‘NLO Cup’ that will cap the activities of NLO,” Ogunnowo said.

“This is the maiden edition, and the teams involved were carefully selected across the federation, with the best interest of our new sponsors, who will be unveiled soon.

“The NLO Cup tournament will be contested by 16 teams, with Kano and Uyo hosting eight teams each in two groups of four teams. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on November 24 and end on December 9, 2023, and promises to be an unforgettable event for teams and spectators alike.

“The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano and the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo will host the group matches, while the Bwari Stadium in Abuja is scheduled to host the grand finale.”

The NLO Cup is expected to be a highly competitive tournament, showcasing some of the best talent in Nigeria’s grassroots football.
