Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has paid tribute to late screen legend Olu Jacobs. He remembered him as a disciplined professional who helped raise standards across the Nigerian film industry.
According to The PUNCH, Kanayo spoke during an interview with BBC News Africa. In the interview, he reflected on Jacobs’ punctuality, professionalism and willingness to guide younger actors during his decades-long career.
“You wouldn’t tell an Olu Jacobs that call time is nine and he’s not there by 8.30,” Kanayo said.

Kanayo said working alongside Jacobs offered younger performers an opportunity to learn from an actor. Jacobs, he explained, consistently brought fresh interpretations to his roles.
“For those of us who were opportuned to be on set with him, he was just that consummate actor who played his part well. And every new scene came with a new interpretation,” he said.
He added that Jacobs was always willing to correct and mentor younger actors who shared a set with him.
“Always willing to teach the younger ones on how they can be better actors. And God save you if you’re on set with Mr. Olu Jacobs and you’re not proving yourself to be an actor,” Kanayo said.
The actor recalled a production directed by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen in Benin. In the production, Jacobs played his father, a king, while he portrayed a prince.
Kanayo said he wished Jacobs had remained with the industry longer but acknowledged the lasting contribution he made.
“I would have wished that he stayed more. He has played his part and it’s time the Lord called him home,” he said.
Jacobs died at the age of 84, with his family announcing his death on September 16.
