Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy is set to become the second African artiste to host a radio station in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. He follows in the footsteps of Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti.

According to Rockstar Games, the Grammy-winning singer will co-host AfroBank FM alongside British DJ and music producer Palms Trax. This will happen in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.

The announcement, made on Thursday, October 8, marks another milestone for African music in the global gaming industry.

Femi Kuti previously made history as the first African artiste to host a radio station in the franchise. He presented International Funk 99 in Grand Theft Auto IV, released in 2008.

The station featured Afrobeat, funk and African-inspired music. It introduced players to sounds associated with Femi and his father, legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Burna Boy follows Femi Kuti’s GTA legacy

Speaking to Hypebeast, Burna Boy expressed excitement about joining the franchise, describing the opportunity as a personal achievement.

“I’ve been playing GTA since way before my music ever made it into the game, so this one is personal,” he said.

The singer previously featured on GTA V’s iFruit Radio with his hit song “Killin Dem”. He also contributed “Gettin’ Money” to GTA Online’s Cayo Perico update.

However, his latest involvement marks his first role as a radio station co-host in the franchise.

AfroBank FM will showcase a blend of African classics and contemporary sounds, including Afrobeats, amapiano and 3-step music.

The station’s previewed playlist includes Asake’s “Joha,” Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor’s “Gye Wani,” and “Shay’sana” by DJ Lag and Robot Boii featuring Kamo Mphela.

African music gains spotlight in GTA VI

Rockstar Games also announced other radio personalities for the upcoming game. These include Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Robyn and Morgan Wallen.

The game will introduce on-demand podcasts, allowing players to enjoy music and radio programmes through their characters’ smartphones.

GTA VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Burna Boy’s inclusion comes nearly two decades after Femi Kuti hosted International Funk 99. This reflects the continued presence of African music in global gaming entertainment.
