The Kaduna State Government has said its ultra-modern Eastern Terminal, designed to operate on the standard of an airport terminal, will revolutionise transportation and provide thousands of employment opportunities when completed.
The acting General Manager of Kaduna Line and acting Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Inuwa Ibrahim, made the disclosure on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing project.
Ibrahim said the terminal, situated in Millennium City, Kaduna, is being built by CGC Nigeria Ltd on a 20-hectare land area. He described the facility as the largest ultra-modern transport terminal by size and infrastructure in the West African sub-Saharan region.
He explained that the project comprises ticketing halls, passenger waiting areas, several transport terminals, a hotel, restaurants, CNG filling stations, and other contemporary transport-related facilities.
“We expect the project to be completed within the next three months for inauguration by Governor Uba Sani,” Mr Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim said the administration of Governor Uba Sani was undertaking a major transformation of Kaduna’s transport sector through strategic infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing security, improving urban planning, increasing passenger comfort, and stimulating economic development.
He noted that the government began its transport reforms by addressing the issue of illegal motor parks after identifying 51 unauthorised parks along the 24-kilometre stretch between Kawo and Command Junction.
According to him, the illegal parks created security challenges and weakened transport regulation, prompting the government to reopen Mando Motor Park before moving ahead with the construction of centralised terminals across the state.
Ibrahim stated that the Kakuri Southern Terminal, which was inaugurated in December 2025, had achieved about 90 per cent completion and would provide a unified location for transport unions and operators.
He added that the facility contains terminals, commercial shops, hotels, a fire safety centre, a filling station, and a vehicle maintenance centre, while the Soba Motor Park project had reached approximately 85 per cent completion.
He said the Soba facility was designed to relocate the existing Kawo Motor Park in order to reduce insecurity and ease traffic congestion within Kaduna metropolis. He added that security reports had associated criminal activities around the park with several incidents, including the killing of a military officer.
Speaking on the Eastern Terminal, Ibrahim said the project was part of the state’s transport development strategy and complemented the federal government’s Eastern Bypass initiative, which is aimed at diverting heavy-duty traffic away from Kaduna city centre.
He projected that the terminal would accommodate about 5,000 vehicles daily after completion and disclosed that the project would create approximately 15,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Ibrahim further stated that the three major transport terminal projects being developed by the state government would jointly generate over 20,000 employment opportunities.
He also revealed that the government was working on the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT) system and the Kaduna Light Rail project, while exploring the possibility of introducing water transportation on River Kaduna as part of an integrated multimodal transport network.
