JUST IN: Three injured as Akwa United players, officials survive road mishap
Nigeria Professional Football League elite club, Akwa United, have confirmed that three of its players and officials are in critical condition following a road accident involving the team.
The accident occurred along the Ezinoye Express road in Enugu state while the team was heading to Kaduna for their NPFL Match-day 15 game against Jigawa Golden Stars, the club said on its official Twitter handle on Friday morning.
According to the statement, a player and two officials have been rushed to a hospital for treatment as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Although there is no report of a fatality at the time of this report, the team confirmed that a number of player and officials sustained injuries in the accident.
“We have been involved in an accident along Ezionye Express road in Enugu on our way to Kaduna for our NPFL Match-day 15 game against Jigawa Golden Stars. Players and officials have sustained injuries. One player and two officials have been taken to the hospital,” the statement read.
As a result of the accident, Akwa United who are currently fifth on the NPFL table could have their picture against the 16th-placed Jigawa Stars postponed.
