JUST IN: Gunmen kill SEDI Director General, Prof Ndubuisi, abduct daughter in Enugu

Unknown gunmen shot dead the Director General of the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Professor Innocent Ndubuisi, and kidnapped his daughter on Wednesday evening.
PUNCH reported that the incident took place along the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway near the entrance of the Centenary Estate around Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu.
Reports said the gunmen also killed his orderly and made away with his daughter who was in the car.
His death comes barely 48 hours after the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AutoEase Service Limited, Ifeanyi Okeke was assassinated by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the presence of his eight-year-old son.
The late Professor Ndubuisi hailed from Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Several horrible images and videos of the gruesome murder are currently trending on social media.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Enugu State, ASP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident.
“Information surrounding a shooting incident today, 07/07/2021 at about 1600hrs, along Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, said to have led to the death of a man and his Police orderly, is still sketchy.
“Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation has commenced. Further development will be duly communicated, please,” Ndukwe wrote.
However, the Police in Enugu State are yet to confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The Scientific Equipment Development Institute, Enugu, is an institute under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). It is located at Akwuke, Enugu South Local Government Area.
The institute is actively involved in research, development and popularization of scientific research results which have been of great help to the growth and development of the nation.
