Widow of the late Nigerian Head of State, Major General Johnson T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi’s wife, Chief Mrs. Victoria is dead.

Victoria, who was born on 21 November 1923, died at the age of 97.

She was recognised as the second First Lady in the annal of Nigeria, from 16 January 1966 to 29 July 1996.

General Aguiyi-Ironsi was the first Nigerian military head of state.

He was assassinated in Ibadan on July 29, 1966 during a countercoup led by Murtala Muhammed which led to the installtion of Yakubu Gowon as the then Head of State.

Victoria never re-married following his death.
