JUST IN: Brentford beat Swansea to gain Premier League promotion
Brentford have beaten Swansea 2-0 in the Championship play-off finals to gain promotion to the Premier League.
Ivan Toney gave Brentford the lead with a penalty after 10 minutes before Emiliano Marcondes sealed the 2-0 win for Brentford.
The Bees made up for last season’s play-off final lost to Fulham who have since relegated back to the Championship.
Brentford captain Pontus Janssen said: “I’m so proud of this squad – we were here last year [when they lost to Fulham] with a big disappointment and it’s been a hard year but we finally got here.
“We felt so disappointed after Fulham last year, but from day one we promised each other we’d be clever and focus on the next game, and now we’re here.”
“I could go home to Sweden and retire now as this is what I have dreamed of.
“A lot of people questioned my move here but I saw something in Brentford and I brought things here that I learned from Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds,” he told Sky Sports.
