Coronavirus: Nigerian journalist raises alarm over ‘insufficient’ scanners at airport
A Nigerian journalist has raised an alarm over the insufficient thermal scanners for screening passengers entering the country through the Lagos airport.
Okorie Uguru took to his Facebook page a few days ago to share a photo of his arrival at the Lagos airport and bemoaned the slow pace of screening of passengers for coronavirus at the airport.
Recall that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) last month said it has deployed thermal scanners in all airports across the country to monitor the temperature of passengers and capture their pictures.
FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, had said when passengers walk pass the scanner, it registers their temperature and if too high, they are pulled aside for observation.
But Uguru said there are just two scanners at the airport, which is making the screening process very slow.
“Despite the huge number of arrival into Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, there are only two cameras for Corona Virus screening. It is causing so much delay,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, indicted the Federal Ministry of Health for not putting serious measures in place to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Lawan, therefore, urged the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care to further liaise with the Ministry to intensify screening of passengers at the nation’s airports and seaports.
Lawan stated this following a point of order by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ajayi Boroffice.
Boroffice drew the attention of the Senate to the failure of health personnel at the airports and seaports to thoroughly screen passengers coming into the country.
