Civil servants in Jigawa State have extended their Christmas break, refusing to return to work despite the official work-free days declared by the Federal Government for Christmas celebrations.
According to Daily Post, a significant number of civil servants did not report back to work as of Wednesday in the State Secretariat and various government offices.
The Federal Government had declared Monday and Tuesday as work-free days to allow for Christmas celebrations.
Observations indicated an unusual calm on Kiyawa Road, usually bustling with activity on regular working days.
A civil servant, Malam Musa, highlighted the challenges faced by workers during such breaks, saying, “The transport fare is costly, and even when you resume, you may not find anything to do. People are suffering, and the government still does nothing to cushion the pain people are going through, no minimum wage, no wage award, no palliative.”
