Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who represents Imo East Senatorial District, has left the Labour Party and joined the All Progressives Congress.
He also expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Onyewuchi’s defection on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, July 23. In 2022, Onyewuchi moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Labour Party.
Before his time in the Senate, he was a member of the House of Representatives for the Owerri-Municipal/Owerri-North/West-Federal Constituency.
In his letter of defection, Onyewuchi explained his decision. He wrote, “This decision is due to the intractable division and crisis in the Labour Party that sponsored my election into the Senate.”
He also declared his support for President Tinubu’s government, saying, “We give our unflinching support to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and, of course, support his administration aimed at achieving sustainable development for our country.”
