Imo governor awards nine-year-old hawker scholarship till he becomes a Catholic priest
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has awarded a scholarship to nine-year-old hawker, Joseph Opara, who went viral at the weekend.
The governor said he would sponsor the child’s education from primary school till he becomes a Catholic priest.
Opara made waves on the internet at the weekend with a video footage of his catholic hymn songs which marked him out as a specially talented kid singer.
The songs attracted instant applause and commendations from the from Nigerians all walks of life.
The state commissioner for information and strategy, Declan Emelumba, who visited the whizkid at his parents residence at Nekede mechanic village in Owerri announced the governor’s benevolence to the family.
“His Excellency, Distinguished Senato Hope Uzodimma was so excited after listening to the video footage of Master Opara and he directed me to locate you and inform you that from today Joseph is now his child and that since he wants to become a catholic priest he will take up the responsibility of training him from his present primary 4 class until he is ordained a priest” Emelumba announced to the family
Joseph’s Father Berneth Opara, said he was very grateful to the governor for his magnanimity
He said,
“Please thank our performing governor, for me. God has used him to bless my family”
