There was pandemonium in Ibadan on Wednesday as angry youths took to the street to protest the alleged killing of a 16-year-old teenager by a security agent.

It was gathered that the boy, whose identity could not be ascertained, was shot dead by some Amotekun Corps who were chasing some armed robbery suspects.

The boy who was said to be an apprentice at a printer’s shop at Uncle Joe Bus Stop, in the Mokola area of Ibadan was said to have been shot dead around 12:30 am.

He was said to have stayed with his boss to print some materials over the night and was sent to go and buy food and drinks when the incident occurred.

Some of the protesters lamented that the boy was shot by some officers of the Amotekun Corps who were chasing some armed robbers at the time.

In addition, the angry youths who were said to have carried the corpse of the boy on top of a tricycle to the State Secretariat, Agodi accused Amotekun of  the killing.

The protesters made bonfires on the road leading to the secretariat and this reportedly caused traffic snarl on the road for about two hours.

Some of those who went to the secretariat said they were turned back by the angry youth who blocked the road and made bonfires at various points along the road.

Security was quickly beefed up at the entrance of the secretariat where the Governor’s Office is located and the gates leading to the place was shut to prevent the protesting youths from going inside the place.

The Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor, Mr Sunday Odukoya, stated that he met with the youth and pleaded to them that the government would unravel the person behind the killing and that such would be punished according to the law.

The protesters reportedly insisted on seeing the governor and this made the security agents at the gate to shut the gates while more policemen were deployed in the place.
