After smashing Algeria, Nigerians praise ‘oyinbo eagle’, Leon Balogun

Hours after the impressive win by the Super Eagles of Nigeria over their Algerian counter parts, Nigerians are showing a lot of love to the players especially Leon Balogun.

Today’s appearance makes Balogun’s caps for Nigeria five but he has already made a huge impression. The 28-year-old defender was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and a German mother. He played for Nigerian for the first time in a friendly match against Mexico in March 2014. He played only for twenty minutes before he was stretchered out for an injury that kept him on the sidelines for about three months. He has played for Nigeria three times after the injury and today’s outing makes it five.

Balogun stole the hearts of Nigerian fans today and he is on his way to earning a regular shirt in the Eagles squad under Coach Gernot Rohr.

Some people even joked that America’s president elect, Donald Trump should hire him to build his ‘wall’ in acknowledgement of Balogun;s defensive game.
