Hollywood veteran, John Travolta, has reflected on how he continues to navigate life after the heartbreaking deaths of his son Jett and wife Kelly Preston, saying his latest film serves as a personal tribute to those he has loved and lost.

Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the 72-year-old actor shared that although “life has certainly tested me,” he has made a conscious choice to move toward optimism rather than despair. “I’m not made to remain absorbed in the darkness,” he said. “I can look at the darkness, but I don’t choose to die in that darkness.”

Travolta has faced profound personal tragedy over the years. His son Jett passed away in 2009 at the age of 16 following a seizure that led to a fatal accident. In 2020, his wife Kelly Preston died at 57, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

He revealed that these experiences have shaped his latest creative work, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which he dedicated to Kelly, Jett, as well as his parents and siblings. “They are the model from which this film was born,” he said.

The film, which draws from Travolta’s own childhood and is inspired by his 1997 children’s book of the same title, is described as semi-autobiographical. Set in 1962 and seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old boy named Jeff, the story blends family storytelling with heavier historical undertones, including references to Nazi concentration camps, while maintaining a childlike perspective.

Travolta’s daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, 26, also features in the project, adding another deeply personal layer to the production.
