Tyson Fury has declared that his long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua is no longer going ahead, instead challenging Oleksandr Usyk to meet him for a third time.
Fury made the declaration on social media as disagreement continued over where the proposed Joshua fight should be staged.
Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn have pushed for the blockbuster contest to take place in Britain, while other parties involved have considered staging it in the United States.
Madison Square Garden in New York had been discussed as a possible venue, but Wembley Stadium has also remained part of negotiations.
Fury turns attention to old rival
Fury has now indicated that he is looking elsewhere for an opponent and wants another opportunity against Usyk.
“Let us run it back in November,” Fury said while challenging the Ukrainian.
Usyk defeated Fury twice on points in 2024, leaving the British boxer eager for another chance to reverse those losses.
Fury questioned whether Usyk was prepared to face him again this year and said he was now searching for a new opponent.
Venue dispute stalls Joshua showdown
The proposed Fury-Joshua fight has long been viewed as one of the biggest possible contests in British boxing.
However, disagreement over its location has prevented organisers from making a final announcement.
Joshua reportedly signed an agreement requiring the fight to take place in the United Kingdom.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has also publicly encouraged promoters to bring the fight to the capital.
Despite Fury’s declaration, promoters have not formally confirmed that negotiations with Joshua have completely collapsed.
For now, however, Fury’s attention appears to have shifted towards securing a trilogy fight with Usyk.
