Gunmen kill customs officer in Katsina
The Katsina Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Saturday evening confirmed that unknown gunmen have killed one of its officers at Faru village in Jibia local government area of Katsina state.
A terse SMS by the Command’s spokesman, Theophilus Duniya, on the incident read”Sadly, we lost an officer. Details would be made available to you as soon as investigations are over.”
Although the identity of the deceased was yet to be released, sources said he was one of the command’s officers at the customs checkpoint in the village located along Jibia/ Zamfara road.
People refer to the checkpoint as the Kwanar Dutse customs’ checkpoint.
The incident reportedly happened late Wednesday evening.
The sources added that the gunmen in large numbers opened fire on the customs officials at the checkpoint during which the deceased was hit by bullets.
He reportedly died on the spot.
There was no information on what happened to the remaining officers as at the time of filing this report on Saturday evening.
