Chairman of the FCT Football Association, Mohammed Mouktar, on Thursday said players who participated in the Inter-Area Council under-15 football tournament were good enough for national teams.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the four-day tournament, Mouktar said he was sure several of the players would be in the national teams in the next four to five years.

“They will surely end up in the national teams and these players could be in the under-20 team or Super Eagles faster than you can imagine if they are fantastic enough.

“We have seen some very young ones making it to the Super Eagles,” he said.

The FCT FA Chairman said he was happy that the association had delivered on some of its promises with the competition.

”This is one of them, as one of our grassroots programmes, and work is still on going. We will make sure we achieve them all.

“We are keeping on our promise and the young players have enjoyed themselves in the competition, with some talented players discovered from the tourney.

Also speaking at the competition’s closing ceremony, a former coach of the national under-17 football team, Fanny Amun, commended the FCT FA for organising the tournament.

“This is a developmental tournament and I commend the programme because it is aimed at contributing to the development of grassroots football.

“This competition shows that the chairman and the FA know what they are doing and he (Mouktar) is focused and determined to help to develop players for the future,” the former coach said.
