The family of a student of the Federal University, Kashere in Gombe State, late Alex Ogbonna, has called on Gombe and Enugu States government to ensure justice is done in what they called ‘Professional Negligence’ which led to the death of Alex.

Alex’s brother, 24-year-old Joseph, said his brother’s happened in such a way that displayed lack of regard for human life.

Joseph stated this in an interview with ThePunch at the university during a candlelight service in honour of the late student.

Joseph, an indigene of Enugu state, 200 Level Accounting Student said,

“My brother’s death is as a result of medical negligence. It has been confirmed he is not a Dentist but a Laboratory Technician. I want to use this opportunity to solicit for help all over, regardless of the distance.

“I want Justice to be served. I want to appeal to the Gombe state Governor and my state governor to help avert further death.”

Also speaking Rev. Fr. Raphael Igbaoyinbo, the Catholic chaplain, Federal University Kashere, who led the candlelight procession said,

“Alex came in a few months ago, just resumed and was about to begin his studies before the sad death occurred. His brother (Joseph) made us to know him better, how he has been his big brother after the demise of their father. Alex was the brain behind Joseph’s success and presence in this school.”

Meanwhile, the Gombe state Police commissioner, Bello Makwashi, has confirmed that the suspect (Lab technician) had been arrested and all hands are on the deck to conclude investigations.

He noted that the action may not be deliberate but could be professional negligence.

“A lot of questions are being asked about his qualifications, at best the best we can do is to look for an independent professional advice. The man is under arrest, the body will be examined to determine culpability or not.”
