The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, collapsed while delivering a speech at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration on Thursday.
According to The PUNCH, Sosu was speaking about his personal experiences, leadership and commitment to public service when he suddenly appeared to lose consciousness on stage.
Moments before the incident, the lawmaker urged the audience to embrace service as a key quality of leadership.
“I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark,” Sosu said.
Sosu collapses during speech
Shortly after making the remark, Sosu paused and appeared to collapse on stage.
People at the event immediately rushed towards him to offer assistance.
A video of the incident published by CitiTV and carried by ModernGhana showed two people helping the lawmaker after he fell.
Sosu briefly appeared to regain consciousness and seemed ready to continue his address.
However, Citi Newsroom reported that he soon began to slump again.
MP taken for medical attention
Sosu was subsequently assisted off the stage and taken away for medical attention.
The video showed several people gathering around him while the podium remained unattended following the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the collapse were not immediately clear.
His condition was also not immediately known as of Thursday.
Sosu represents the Madina constituency in Ghana’s Parliament.
