Napoli coach, Gennaro Gattuso, has revealed what Victor Osimhen’s punishment will be for contracting the deadly COVID-19.

Recall that the Super Eagles striker tested positive for the virus on Friday after returning to Naples on Thursday having been away to Lagos for the yuletide break.

Osimhen who has not featured for Gattuso’s side since dislocating his shoulder during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone on November 13 had a party to celebrate his 22nd birthday on December 29.

Unfortunately, the former Lille striker allegedly contracted the deadly virus at the birthday party in Lagos.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Gattuso said: “When I made a mistake, Marcello Lippi used to say he would let me stew in my own juices for a while, to recognize what I’d done. That’s what Osimhen has to do now.”

“He has already apologized, he’s a lad who gives his all when working. He made a silly mistake, he knows that.

“I am a coach, I do not decide fines, especially as I was the one who gave the all-clear for him to return to Nigeria and so both of us were left embarrassed by what happened.

“He made a mistake, and he will pay what he needs to pay.”

However, the striker has since apologised for his actions to the club and his manager via an Instagram story after returning to Italy from Nigeria.

“I am so sorry for what happened, I was wrong to go to Nigeria in this moment, even if I have many loved ones over there, including my brothers.

“I was wrong to take part in the party I didn’t understand the severity of what I was doing. I apologise to the club, the coach, the team and the fans.”
