Funke Akindele ranks top on Nollywood’s director, producer, writers’ list

Veteran Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has been rated as one of the best in the movie industry’s top producers, writers, directors, and highest grossing Nigerian actresses.

WuzupNigeria reports that the ‘Tribe of Judah’ star recently failed to win an award at the just concluded African Magic Viewers Choice Awards after bagging multiple nominations in categories such as Best Makeup, Best Writing in a Movie, Best Lead Actress, Best Movie, and Best Supporting Actor, A Tribe of Judah failed to take home any awards.

However in a recent data released by ComScore and FilmOne, the mother of two ranked number one on the top 10 Nollywood highest grossing actresses in 2023.

Akindele who grossed N794m to top the list ahead of second placed Shaffy Bello and third-placed Toyin Abram who grossed N216m and N144m, respectively. Omowunmi Dada (N129m) and Mercy Aigbe (N126m) occupied fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Likewise, the actress came second in the list of top 10 Nollywood directors for her movie ‘ A Tribe Called Judah’ coming after Adeoluwa Owu who also directed ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ and ‘Adire’ then Akay Mason who directed Ada Omo Mummy, Love in a pandemic, Love Alert.

Following suite is Biodun Stephen who directed The Kujus Again, Big love, Small Talk, Different Strokes, Hotel Lambaba, To Freedom, also Stephen Sodiya who directed Maliaka, Kayode Kasum who directed Sonething like Gold, Afemufuna, Love Lust, Other Things, Odunlade Adekola, Adebayo Tijani, Moses Inwang, Tope Adebayo and Ibrahim Yekini who directed Orisa, Ada Omo Mummy, MerryMen, Kesari coming 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th position respectively.

For the top ten producers categories, the veteran actress topped the list with Toyin Abraham, Odunlade Adekola, Mercy Aigbe, Darlington Abuda, Ibrahim Yekini Bakare, Sandra Okunzuwa, Winifred Okpapi, Bisola Aiyeola, Olawunmi Fajemirokun, Kene Egbue, Chinaza Onuzo, Zulu Oyigbo following suite respectively.

Once again, in the top ten list of the Nollywood writers, Funke topped the list, with other writers listed subsequently.
