Funeral mass begins for South Africa’s Desmond Tutu

The requiem mass for Archbishop Desmond Tutu began on Saturday morning in Cape Town’s Anglican cathedral, a ceremony he had arranged himself and wanted to be modest, AFP journalists reported.

It started with song and a procession of clerics down the aisle burning incense and carrying candles in the church where Tutu will also be buried.

Tributes have continued to pour in since the demise of the anti-apartheid leader, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who died on Sunday aged 90.

Prominent leaders around the world including US President Joe Biden, Pope Francis, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Foundation, Former United States President, Barack Obama and many others have all reacted to his demise.
