Former Kwara deputy gov, Peter Kisira, passes away at 74

Former Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Elder Peter Kisira, has passed away at the age of 74.

Kisira, who served alongside Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed from May 29, 2011, to May 29, 2019, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Hailing from Ilesha-Baruba in the Baruten local government area of Kwara State, Kisira’s death has elicited condolences from various quarters.

In a statement issued by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor expressed sadness at the news of Kisira’s demise.

“On behalf of the people and government of the state, Governor AbdulRazaq sends his heartfelt condolences to the people of Baruten and the family of Elder Kisira, whom he urges to take solace in his fine legacies as a public servant and a bureaucrat who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the state’s civil service.

“The Governor said the former Deputy Governor will be remembered for his life of commendable public service and dedication to good causes.

“He prays to God to receive his soul and look after the family that inherits him”, the statement partly reads.

Similarly, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, condoled with the state government over Kisira’s death. Describing Kisira as a gentleman and administrator par excellence, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari prayed for the deceased’s soul and comfort for his family.

Former Senate President and two-term governor of Kwara state, Dr. Bukola Saraki, also mourned Kisira’s passing. Extending condolences to the deceased’s family and the people of Ilesha-Baruba, Saraki praised Kisira as an accomplished politician and respected community leader who served with diligence and dedication.

Saraki concluded by praying for divine comfort for Kisira’s family and the entire state as they mourn his loss.
