For turning down his advances, man lures akara seller, rapes her in Ogun
A 29-year-old man has been arrested for raping trader in Ojere Area of Ogun State.
The culprit, one Buhari Abiola, allegedly raped a 21-year-old fried potato and akara seller and was arrested on 7 May 2020.
The Ogun state police command’s Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO], DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, said Abiola’s arrest followed a complaint filed by the victim at Adigbe Divisional Headquarters in Abeokuta.
The police spokesman explained that the victim was selling fried potatoes and beancake at church street area of Ojere.
He said the suspect came to buy the fried potatoes and asked the victim to come and collect the money in his house which was a stone throw to the place.
The statement read in part,
“She further stated that on getting to his house, the suspect forcefully dragged her into his room where he had carnal knowledge of her against her consent.
“Upon the report, the DPO Adigbe Division, CSP Austin Okpadile , detailed his men to the scene where the randy suspect was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect who was denying initially later confessed that he actually raped the girl.
“He stated that he has been making advances to the girl for quite some time but the girl has been turning him down, and when he saw her selling fried potatoes, he decided to use that as a bait to get her to the bed.”
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has expressed worry over the rate at which young girls were being sexually abused.
He said,
“the commissioner has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and deligent prosecution.
