Fire razes OAU students’ off-campus hostel
Fire said to have been caused by leaked gas has razed a story building along Ede Road, Ile Ife, occupied by students of Obafemi Awolowo University.
Osun State Fire Service, while confirming the incident, said the fire was caused by leaked gas, while one of the occupants was cooking.
Fatai Aremu, the Administrative Officer of Osun State Fire Service, said the men of Ife Unit of the Fire Service were informed of the incident late Tuesday, adding that they battled to put out the fire for several hours.
Aremu said over N15 million worth properties were lost to the fire incident, while properties saved were worth over N100 million.
He said,
“No casualty. The building is owned by an individual, but OAU students are the occupants. We were alerted of the incident late Tuesday and we battled it for several hours.”
