FG postpones meeting with organised labour
The Federal Government has postponed a meeting with Organised Labour scheduled for Monday, October 31, 2023, to discuss the progress made in the implementation of a 15-point Memorandum of Understanding that led to the suspension of a planned indefinite strike on October 3, 2023.
The meeting was postponed due to the Federal Executive Council meeting that was scheduled for the same day. According to a source, the rescheduled meeting will now hold on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
“The meeting did not hold. It has been postponed. It was postponed because of the FEC meeting today (yesterday). Government representatives said they forget that today (yesterday) was FEC meeting. The meeting will now hold next week Tuesday.” a source said.
The MoU, which was signed by the government and Labour on October 2, 2023, includes agreements to increase the minimum wage, review the pump price of petrol, and provide palliatives to cushion the effects of economic hardship on Nigerians.
The planned strike was suspended following the signing of the MoU, but Labour has threatened to resume the strike if the government fails to implement the agreements.
