The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has issued the Federal Government a fresh SSANU 14-day ultimatum to pay outstanding arrears contained in the 2026 agreement between both parties.
According to The Guardian, SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim announced the SSANU 14-day ultimatum while presenting resolutions reached at the union’s National Executive Council meeting.
Union threatens indefinite strike
Ibrahim said implementation of the agreement had been inconsistent across universities. This was a key concern behind issuing the SSANU 14-day ultimatum.
He warned that failure to complete outstanding payments could result in an indefinite industrial action. In summary, the SSANU 14-day ultimatum shows the urgency of the union’s demands.
“Agreements and NEC resolutions must translate into concrete action and measurable benefits for our members,” Ibrahim said.
The union directed its branches to monitor implementation and document cases of non-compliance or alleged victimisation.
SSANU rejects King’s College concession
SSANU also rejected the proposed concession arrangement involving King’s College, Lagos.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers similarly criticised the proposal, arguing that transferring the school’s operational responsibility to a private association could threaten public education and teachers’ employment security.
NUT President Titus Amba described the proposed arrangement as a “dangerous departure from the principle of public education.”
