Afropop singer Yemi Alade has revealed that her fans played a major role in naming her latest album, “It’s Yemi Alade.” She invited them to suggest possible titles for the project.
According to The Sun, Alade received more than 200 suggestions from fans. Before long, one name repeatedly emerged and eventually became the album’s title.
“The name that kept coming up was ‘It’s Yemi Alade’. They wanted a self-titled album, and I went for it,” she said.

The singer explained that allowing fans to participate in naming the album was her way of recognising people who have supported her throughout her career.
Beyond the title, Alade described the project as one of the most personal and experimental albums she has created.
She said the project was developed around the idea of “something new, something old, something borrowed.”
The “old” reflects a return to sounds associated with earlier stages of her career. Meanwhile, the “borrowed” represents her exploration of genres including Kompa, disco and techno-inspired sounds.
Alade also revisited her early interest in rap as part of the album’s “new” dimension.
Singer embraces new sounds
The award-winning artiste said she deliberately allowed herself to experiment with sounds that audiences might not normally associate with her.
“I’ve been fearless about creating sounds that people may not traditionally associate with me,” she said.
Alade described the project as “audacious,” saying it represents her growing confidence to create music without being restricted by expectations.
The album also serves as a statement of identity, with the singer giving her fans a direct role in defining the project.
